Governor Beshear Visits Glasgow Preschool Academy, Highlights Preschool for All Initiative
Glasgow Independent Schools was honored to welcome Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear to Glasgow Preschool Academy for a special visit highlighting the importance of early childhood education and his Preschool for All initiative, which seeks to expand access to high-quality preschool opportunities for Kentucky’s four-year-olds.
During his visit, Governor Beshear toured Glasgow Preschool Academy, visited classrooms, interacted with students and educators, and saw firsthand the meaningful learning experiences that help Glasgow’s youngest Scotties build a strong foundation for future success.
The Governor’s visit provided an opportunity to highlight his Preschool for All campaign and the importance of ensuring more Kentucky children have access to high-quality early learning experiences before entering kindergarten. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to preparing children for school, supporting working families, and investing in the long-term success of Kentucky’s communities.
For Glasgow Independent Schools, the Governor’s visit also provided an opportunity to showcase the district’s commitment to early childhood education. At Glasgow Preschool Academy, students engage in purposeful play, early literacy and numeracy experiences, social-emotional learning, and developmentally appropriate instruction designed to build curiosity, confidence, independence, and a love of learning.
“We are incredibly proud to welcome Governor Beshear to Glasgow Preschool Academy and to have the opportunity to showcase the outstanding work of our students and staff,” said Chad Muhlenkamp, Glasgow Independent Schools Superintendent. “We believe a child’s educational journey begins long before kindergarten. Expanding access to high-quality preschool gives more children the opportunity to enter school with a strong foundation and ready to learn.”
The goals of Preschool for All align with Glasgow Independent Schools’ belief that investing early in students can have an impact that extends throughout their educational journey. By removing barriers to preschool access, Kentucky can help ensure that a child’s opportunity to benefit from high-quality early learning is not determined by family income or circumstance.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to begin school feeling confident, capable, and connected,” said Yvonne Wilkinson, Glasgow Preschool Academy Supervisor. “At Glasgow Preschool Academy, we see every day what is possible when young children are surrounded by caring educators and given meaningful opportunities to learn, explore, and grow.”
Governor Beshear’s visit celebrated the students and educators of Glasgow Preschool Academy while drawing attention to a larger conversation about the future of early childhood education across the Commonwealth.
Glasgow Independent Schools extends its appreciation to Governor Beshear and his team for visiting the district, spending time with students and staff, and continuing to elevate the importance of early learning across Kentucky.
For Glasgow’s youngest Scotties, preschool represents more than preparation for kindergarten—it is the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning in creating a Tradition of Excellence.
